Our Teachers

At Bruce College, our teachers are more than subject experts – they are dedicated mentors who go above and beyond to help every student succeed. With years of experience, a passion for their subjects, and a commitment to clear, exam-focused teaching, they provide the guidance and support students need to achieve their best results.

Isabel Buckley – English

Isabel Buckley is an English teacher at Bruce College Cork, recognised for her engaging, student-centred approach in the classroom.  Isabel has developed a strong understanding of the Leaving Certificate and Junior Cycle English curricula. Her lessons are interactive, exam-focused, and designed to equip students with the confidence and skills needed to achieve top results.

Gary Burns – Business and Economics

Gary Burns joined Bruce College in 2011 and has over 15 years’ experience in guiding students to excellence in their leaving certificate exams, consistently reaching top results in Ireland. A teacher of economics and business, Gary possesses an in-depth understanding of both curricula.

Kathryn Butler – Maths

Kathryn Butler has been teaching Mathematics in Bruce College for 30 years, and truly loves the subject. There is nothing more rewarding for Kathryn than helping teenagers discover that Maths can be understood – and even enjoyable. She is passionate about creating a supportive classroom where students feel confident to ask questions, explore ideas, and succeed. 

Aoife Kearney – Biology

With over 15 years of experience teaching Biology and Chemistry, Aoife Kearney is a passionate and dedicated educator who consistently helps students achieve exceptional results. Known for her strong work ethic and commitment to high standards, she creates a focused yet supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential.

Anita Leen – Physics

With many years of experience teaching Biology and Physics in Ireland and abroad, including time in Melbourne, Australia, Anita brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the classroom. She holds a Bachelor of Science and Education from the University of Limerick and is passionate about helping students appreciate science and its applications in everyday life.

Tracey Murphy – Business and Geography

Having joined Bruce College in 2002, Tracey Murphy is a highly accomplished geography and business educator with a reputation for excellence in teaching and inspiring her students. Holding a BA (Hons), PGDipCOFMkgtRD (Hons), and H. Dip Ed (Hons), she combines strong academic expertise with a passion for teaching.

Annette Murray – Music

Annette Murray has a long-standing reputation for excellence in classroom music teaching, with her students consistently achieving exceptional results. She is committed to helping all students reach their full potential, regardless of their starting point.

Her teaching is practical, clear, and fun, making complex topics accessible and ensuring that no student is left behind. Annette creates an inclusive, balanced classroom where every student is supported, challenged, and motivated to succeed.

Tara Raymond – German

Tara Raymond has been teaching German in Bruce College since 2012. She has more than twenty five years’ teaching experience at Primary, Secondary and Third Level across three continents. Academically, Tara holds a B.A. in German and An Léinn Dúchais from UCC, a H.Dip in Education from TCD and a Masters in Translation from DCU. She is a Leaving Cert oral and written examiner and uses this invaluable insight to gain advantage for her students.
